Top beaches in Barcelona and its outskirts

Barcelona has a rich architecture, cultural and artistic life. It hosts a lot of festivals and great museums. But most importantly Barcelona has the SUN, which shines a lot and attracts many sun seekers to la playa (beach). Check out the list of some of the best beaches in Barcelona.

Barceloneta Beach

This beach is the closest to the city centre and the most popular beach in the city. It is located only a 10 minutes walk from the Ramblas, so, Barceloneta is really the most touristic beach of the city. It is always crowded, noisy and full of people, but it is a great fun! Golden sand, blue sea and sky, plenty of cafes, restaurants and chiringuitos (beach bars). Enjoy!

The beach is located 20 minutes walking from the metro station “Ciutadella Vila Olimpica”(Yellow Line, L4). Once you will see it, you will find that it is cleaner and quieter than the Barceloneta beach. Also prepare yourself for a volleyball set, tattoo, massage and seriously large sunglasses.

It is an hour’s train journey out of the city, but it is worth a visit. St Pol de Mar is a stunning beach embraced by a clear water and beautiful hills. St Pol de Mar is a little pretty village on the beach and if you like excellent food after the beach experience try to visit a local restaurant.

The beach is only fifteen minutes south of the city centre and welcomes with five kilometres of tempting sand. It is cleaner than Barceloneta, but can also be very crowded during peak season. This beach is a nice alternative to the Barceloneta for a weekend. Try to dance in one of the chiringuitos (beach bars) there!

Five minutes by train from Castelldefels is Garraf, which is notably quieter. Garraf beach is at the foot of La Falconera cliffs and has lovely views. It is also home to the “Bodegas G√ľell” by famous architect Antonio Gaudi,¬†which is now a restaurant.
